Mobile design and mobile development are becoming quite hot topics. At CategoryCode we now educate all of our clients on the benefits and mobile/responsive website design and development. We have now built a series of websites to be responsive and mobile-friendly so I thought I would share a few resources that we use.

Our Responsive Framework

Our responsive framework of choice is Foundation by Zurb. This is a fantastic framework. It is much more then just a simple grid such as 960 Grid (which we also love). It provides the following:

  • Grid
  • Buttons
  • Forms
  • Modal Windows
  • jQuery Slider (Orbit)
  • and much, much more

Responsive Testing

Typically one of the trickiest aspects of web development is testing. There are so many different browsers, operating systems, screen sizes, etc. that you need to have a number of tools to properly test out your projects.

When it comes to testing our mobile/responsive websites you need to test them on a variety of screen sizes so that you can see how they displays and make the appropriate changes to maximize the viewing experience.

Here are a few of our current favorite tools for testing:

All of these tools allow you to enter your web address and it will showcase it in an arrow of sizes allowing you to properly test.

Our Resources

Foundation is not the only responsive framework. We have also seen Bootstrap by Twitter which looks quite solid but we have yet to test out their newest version.

Now our tool set is going to constantly evolve. As we find new and awesome tools that streamline our development process we will be sure to keep you posted.
